Purpose

Scud is freeware designed to monitor caller id activity via your caller id capable modem. When telemarketers call you, the calls are usually displayed as "UNAVAILABLE". Scud detects these calls and answers them after the first ring with a modem answer tone. The telemarketer will note that they have reached a modem, and will hopefully remove your number from their call list. Additionally, you can enter other caller's names or numbers into a scud list, and they too will be answered. You will never have to run for the phone again only to be accosted by unwanted callers. With scud defending your privacy, don't bother with calls that ring only once.

Features

• Choose whether to answer or hangup on selected callers. When answering a call, the modem will send it's annoying sync signal for as long as you specify.
• Act on callers that meet certain criteria
  1. Unavailable callers (normally telemarketers)
  2. Private callers
  3. Any caller who's name or number match those entered in the config file.
     regular expressions can be used for this
• Keeps a log of calls received and whether an action was performed
• Can run as a service all the time (good if you have no other use for your modem).
• Can run as a command line utility showing the log in the current window (good if you have to use your modem for internet access also).

So far, scud has been tested and known to work on:

• FreeBSD
• Linux
• Windows 95/98
• Windows NT/2000/XP
• US Robotics modems work best for me

Note: Scud is only known to work in the US.
